GODFREY Thomas Alfred

Thomas Alfred Godfrey was born on 18 July 1901, in South Australia, Australia, his father, Alfred Charles Simmons Godfrey, was 34 and his mother, Emily Jane Murray, was 27.
Tom came to W.A. with his parents in 1905 when they began farming in Beverley.
In 1913 the elder Mr A.G. Godfrey with son Thomas, came to this district to manage a property 7 miles south of Toompup for Judge Draper.
The farm was later owned by Mr R. Margesson.
At this time Ted, though only 17 years of age, had his own team of horses and was working at Bolgart, but came to Gnowangerup and worked for Formbys and Stutleys in 1915 and then joined his parents and brothers and sisters when they moved on to their own property,
“Myrtle Bank" in 1919.

Tom took an active part in community life in Gnowangerup and was known to be an excellent shot in the local Rifle Club.
Tom donated a stump jump plough - one of the first to be used in WA - to the local Agricultural Society museum (Ram Pavilion) in Gnowangerup.
Ted married Eileen Brixey, (1905 - 1998) 29 November 1929, in Katanning.
Eileen had arrived in WA in 1928 from Havant, Hampshire in England.
Eileen had worked in as an assistant cook in London prior to emigrating.
In Australia she found work as a Nanny/Housekeeper.
They had eight children, 26 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
After farming for a few years they lived in Gnowangerup until Tom died in 1984. Eileen moved to Perth to be closer to her children. She died in 1998.
